Fish Community Analysis

Quantitative sampling of the fish populations at two sites in Little Beaver Creek, one site in Big Run, and at two reference streams (Sugar Run and Sunfish Creek), was conducted by electrofishing with one or two Smith-Root backpack electrofisher from fall 1991 through spring 1993.

The quality of the fish community was only moderately degraded at Little Beaver Creek 5, and improved going downstream. Both sites in Little Beaver Creek had fewer fish species than at the comparable reference stream, Sunfish Creek (Figure 1).
The quality of the fish community at Big Run 8 was more degraded and had fewer fish species than at the comparable reference site in Sugar Run. The community also had fewer darters and suckers than the reference sites.
