Soil Toxicity Tests

Soil toxicity tests were conduced in January, 1994 on soil samples from six locations along Little Beaver Creek, two locations near Big Run, one site near each of three small tributaries, and one site near each of three reference streams, Sugar Run, Pike Run, and Sunfish Creek. The tests used earthworm (Eisenia) and plant (Arabidopsis) species following protocols developed by ORNL to support the BERA for PORTS.

The plant tests did not reveal strong evidence for toxicity at any of the sites.
The earthworm tests identified one site that was Asuspect@ for toxicity, possibly warranting further investigation.
