Ph.D. in biomedical science (emphasis in genetics and radiation biology) from the University of Tennessee/Oak Ridge Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences in 1989. Research interests include risk assessment methodology development, chemical hazard evaluation, and utilizing cancer genetics and cytogenetics for diagnosis and prognosis of particular malignancies. For over fourteen years she was the project lead of an EPA task to derive acute inhalation values used for community planning in case of releases. She has served on subcommittees of the National Research Council Committee on Toxicology and external peer review panels for the U.S. EPA. Dr. Bast is currently certified in General Toxicology by the American Board of Toxicology and is the team leader of ORNL’s Toxicology and Hazard Assessment Team.
