Education

Ph.D., Botany/plant ecology, 1975, University of Louisville

Dr. Salk joined the Environmental Sciences Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in 1975. Her major fields of interest include plant ecology, environmental assessment, endangered species, land use, wetlands, environmental laws and regulations, and cultural resources management. She has been involved in projects related to wind, fossil, biomass, and nuclear energy and also energy policy. She has participated in the preparation of more than 20 National Environmental Policy Act documents, contributing sections related to topics such as terrestrial ecology, threatened and endangered species, land use, cultural resources, and cumulative impacts. Since 1995, she has participated in and managed the Environmental Sciences Division's support to the Department of Energy's Office of Nuclear Safety and Environment (HS-20) and its predecessors (e.g., the Office of Environmental Guidance). She also provides web site support for two ORNL web sites: Oak Ridge National Environmental Research Park and ORNL's Sustainable Campus.
