This is a brief description of studies that exemplify the methods and approaches that have been developed and used by Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) researchers in conducting integrated assessments. Risk Estimation and Management for Globally Distributed Environmental Contaminants

The science of global risk analysis is under development.

How can the science of global risk analysis be developed?

The continued production and widespread use of agro-industrial and energy technology chemicals such as DDT, mercury, and cesium-137 place increasing numbers of exposed humans and nonhumans at risk.

ORNL will be pioneering the integration of expert systems, artificial intelligence, models of global contaminant transport, models of human health and ecological effects, and geographic information systems to address global-scale pollution and to create a decision support system.
