Fort McCoy contains large areas of oak savannahs where blue lupine (Lupinus perrenis) is prevalent. These conditions are also favorable to the Karner blue butterfly (Lycaeides melissa samuelis Nabokov). We hypothesize that the patchy distribution of the lupine and Karner blue can be modeled as a "metapopulation."
