Work for the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC)

  • ESD Staff have assisted the NRC in evaluating the potential environmental impacts of constructing and operating nuclear power plants, as well as the other components of the nuclear fuel cycle (e.g., ore mining, uranium extraction, milling, fuel fabrication, recycling, transportation, and radioactive waste disposal)
  • Our environmental reviews of NRC licensing actions includes such projects as:
    • Generic EIS for license renewal of existing U.S. nuclear power plants
    • Radioisotope mining and materials-processing waste piles (e.g., “tailing piles”) in Arizona, New Mexico, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming
    • Privately-proposed Interim Spent Nuclear Fuel Storage Facility in Utah
    • Commercial processing of radioactive materials in Massachusetts and Pennsylvania
    • Export licensing of nuclear materials
