Who We Are

The Sustainability and Technology Deployment (S&TD) Group is a group in  the Environmental Sciences Division (ESD) at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).  ORNL is an international leader in a range of scientific areas that support the Department of Energy’s mission. ORNL has six major mission roles: neutron science, energy, high-performance computing, systems biology, materials science at the nanoscale, and national security.  ORNL has always been called upon to address America’s greatest scientific challenges.  ESD is a division within ORNL  that is an interdisciplinary research and development organization with more than 60 years of achievement in local, national, and international environmental research.  ESD’s vision is to expand scientific knowledge and develop innovative strategies and technologies that will strengthen the nation’s leadership in creating solutions to help sustain the Earth’s natural resources.

The S&TD Group integrates research and development into field and laboratory methods with new theory, modeling, data systems, policy analysis, and evaluation to create innovative solutions to complex environmental DoD challenges.  Our objective is to support research and development through DoD relationships and existing complex environmental restoration/compliance projects.  S&TD strives to conduct research, develop technology, deploy innovative technologies, and perform analyses to understand and assess critical environmental systems and infrastructures at DoD Facilities.
