Hongmei Chen earned her Ph.D. in Chemistry from Old Dominion University in 2014. Her doctoral research focused on “Molecular Characterization and Photochemical Transformation of Dissolved Organic Matter from Land to Ocean” using state-of-the-art high-resolution mass spectrometry (Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry). She is currently an ORNL postdoctoral research associate mentored by Baohua Gu, and her research focuses on molecular-scale understanding of mercury-dissolved organic matter complexes affecting mercury biogeochemical transformations in natural water and sediments.
