Swapneeta Date earned her Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) in 2016 where her work involved structural-functional characterization of a human vitamin transporter that is a unique target for anticancer agents. During her Ph.D. she published several research articles and won multiple awards, including TTUHSC Dean’s Scholar Award, and Outstanding Graduate Student Award. Following a summer fellowship at the Columbia University Medical Center in New York, she joined the ORNL Mercury Science Focus Area - Task 4 in September 2016. Her aim is to characterize the molecular mechanisms of mercury methylation and understand the complex interplay between various cellular components and pathways surrounding methylation of mercury.
